How to turn opcode caching on or off

Opcode caching makes PHP websites, including WordPress, faster. Normally, PHP has to prepare (compile) your website’s code every time a page is loaded. With opcode caching, the prepared code is kept ready in memory and reused, so pages are served more quickly and use fewer resources.

We recommend keeping opcode caching switched on. There’s rarely any reason to turn it off.

First, log in to your Enhance panel – see how to login to Enhance Panel.

Check or change opcode caching

  1. Select Websites in the left side bar, then select the website you want to manage.
  2. In the menu along the top, open the Advanced drop-down and select Optimisation.
  3. Under Opcode caching, use the switch to turn it on or off.

If you’ve just changed your website’s PHP files and don’t see the change, the cache may briefly still be serving the old version. It normally updates on its own within moments. A developer may occasionally turn opcode caching off temporarily while working on code, and should turn it back on afterwards.
