A redirect automatically sends visitors from one address to another – for example from an old page to its new location, or from a domain you no longer use to your main website.
Which type should I use?
- 301 (permanent) – use this when the move is permanent. Search engines update their records to the new address, so it’s the best choice for SEO.
- 302 (temporary) – use this for short-term changes, such as a temporary holding page.
Add a redirect
- Select Websites in the left side bar, then select the website you want to manage.
- In the menu along the top, open the Advanced drop-down and select Redirects.
- Select Add redirect.
- Fill in the row:
- Status – choose 301 or 302.
- Domain – the domain visitors will arrive on.
- Slug – the page to redirect, for example
old-page. Leave it blank to redirect the whole domain. - Destination URL – choose https:// and enter the address to send visitors to.
- Select Add.
