How to create a manual backup

As well as our automatic backups, you can take a backup yourself before making a big change – for example before updating WordPress, changing your theme or installing a new plugin.

First, log in to your Enhance panel – see how to login to Enhance Panel.

Take a manual backup

  1. Select Websites in the left side bar, then select the website you want to manage.
  2. Select Backups in the menu along the top.
  3. Select Create backup.

Your new backup appears in the list, ready to restore from if you need it – see how to restore a backup of your website or email.

The Create backup button only appears if your hosting plan includes manual backups. If you can’t see it, don’t worry – our automatic backups are still running, or you can ask us to take one for you.

Download a copy to keep

Our backups are a safeguard, not a guarantee, so it’s good practice to keep your own copy of anything important, somewhere away from your hosting.

  1. Select Websites in the left side bar, then select the website you want to manage. This opens your website’s home page, with the menu along the top.
  2. In the Quick links box, open the Download drop-down.
  3. Choose what you’d like to download. Your download starts straight away as a compressed file.

Downloads can contain your email accounts and passwords, so store them securely. A website download doesn’t include your cron jobs (scheduled tasks).

Very large websites may be too big to download this way. If your download doesn’t complete, contact us and we’ll help.

Please don’t keep backups on your hosting

Backup files you create and leave in your hosting space can be removed automatically after 7 days, and they use up your disk space. Keep them elsewhere instead – see what happens if I go over my plan’s limits.
