How to manage WordPress updates and plugins in Enhance

Keeping WordPress, its plugins and themes up to date is the single most important thing you can do for your website’s security.

First, log in to your Enhance panel – see how to login to Enhance Panel.

The Toolkit is also on your website’s home page, in the Applications box. It’s where you manage your WordPress installation from Enhance, including updates, plugins and users.

Set WordPress automatic updates

  1. Select Websites in the left side bar, then select the website you want to manage.
  2. Select Apps in the menu along the top, then the Toolkit button next to your WordPress installation.
  3. Find the automatic updates setting and select the pencil icon next to it.
  4. Choose how you’d like WordPress to update, and select Save.

The default setting installs minor updates automatically. These are mainly security and maintenance fixes, so we recommend leaving them switched on at the very least.

Install plugins

  1. Open Toolkit for your WordPress installation, as above.
  2. Scroll to Plugins and select Install.
  3. Choose the plugins you’d like, then select Install.

Before a big update, take a backup so you can roll back if anything goes wrong – see how to create a manual backup. Remove plugins and themes you don’t use, as out-of-date ones are a common way in for attackers.

For extra protection, see do you support WordPress plugins and themes, which covers keeping WordPress healthy and our Patchstack security add-on.
