Domain names don’t have a cancel button. Instead, you cancel a domain by turning off auto-renew. The domain then isn’t renewed, and it expires at the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
Before you cancel
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Is your email on this domain? | Every email address on the domain, such as [email protected], will stop receiving email once it expires. |
| Is your website on this domain? | Your website won’t be reachable at that address any more. |
| Is it used anywhere else? | For example Microsoft 365, online accounts you log in to with that email address, or printed materials. |
| Do you just want to move it? | If you’re moving to another provider, transfer it instead, so you keep it – see how to transfer a domain away from PAC. |
How to cancel a domain
- Log in to your client area – see how do I log in to my PAC client area.
- Select Domains > My Domains.
- Select the domain you want to cancel, or the Manage button next to it.
- Select Auto Renew in the domain’s menu.
- Select Disable Auto Renew.
That’s it. We won’t raise a renewal invoice or send renewal reminders, and the domain will expire on its expiry date. You can see the expiry date in My Domains.
Changed your mind?
- Before it expires: turn auto-renew back on, or renew it straight away – see how to renew your domain name. Renewals are due 14 days before the actual expiry date, so don’t leave it too late.
- After it expires: contact us as soon as possible. Most registries have a short grace or redemption period, which varies by extension, when an expired domain can still be restored. Restoring a domain in its redemption period costs extra, and the registry’s redemption fee is payable by you. After that, the domain can be registered by someone else.
Refunds
Domain registrations and renewals can’t be refunded once they’ve been submitted to the registry, and aren’t covered by our money-back guarantee. Turning off auto-renew stops future renewals; it doesn’t refund time you’ve already paid for. The full wording is in our Domain Registration Terms.
