Your DNS records control where your domain points – your website, your email and any verification records. Where you edit them depends on which nameservers your domain uses, so the first step is to check.
Step 1: Check which nameservers your domain uses
Log in to your PAC Client Area, go to pacwebhosting.uk/mydomains, click Manage next to your domain and open Nameservers. Then find your nameservers in the table below.
| If your nameservers are | Edit your DNS in |
|---|---|
| earth.pacwebhosting.uk moon.pacwebhosting.uk sun.pacwebhosting.uk mars.pacwebhosting.uk | Enhance Panel (our Enhance hosting nameservers) |
| ns1.pacwebhosting.co.uk ns2.pacwebhosting.co.uk ns3.pacwebhosting.co.uk ns4.pacwebhosting.co.uk | PAC Client Area (our free DNS service) |
| Anything else | The company those nameservers belong to |
Option A: You use our Enhance nameservers
If your domain uses earth, moon, sun and mars.pacwebhosting.uk, its DNS is managed in Enhance Panel, alongside your hosting.
- Log in to Enhance Panel.
- Select Websites in the left side bar, then the website the domain belongs to.
- Select Domains in the menu along the top, then select the domain.
- Select DNS records in the menu on the left (or scroll down).
- To add a record, select Add record. To change or remove one, use the menu (⋮) at the end of its line.
Option B: You use our free DNS
If your domain uses ns1 to ns4.pacwebhosting.co.uk, its DNS is managed in your PAC Client Area. This suits domains registered with us that aren’t hosted on our Enhance platform, for example if your website or email is hosted elsewhere.
- Go to pacwebhosting.uk/mydomains and click Manage next to your domain.
- From the domain’s management menu, click DNS Management (sometimes shown as Manage DNS).
- Add or edit your records and save.
Option C: You use another company’s nameservers
If your domain’s nameservers belong to another company (for example Cloudflare, or your previous host), your DNS is managed there. Log in to their control panel to make changes. Changing records with us won’t have any effect.
Common record types
- A – points a name (like your domain or a subdomain) to an IPv4 address.
- CNAME – points a name to another name (an alias), for example www to your main domain.
- MX – tells the internet which server handles your email.
- TXT – used for verification and email security records such as SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
Using our Enhance hosting with our free DNS or another company’s nameservers
If your website or email is hosted on our Enhance platform but your domain uses our free DNS or another company’s nameservers, you’ll need to add the records yourself. For email, you’ll typically need:
- an A record for mail.yourdomain.com pointing to your Mail IP
- an MX record pointing to mail.yourdomain.com
You can find your website and Mail IPs in Enhance – see where do I find my hosting IPs. Or, to make life simpler, switch to our Enhance nameservers – see how to update your domain’s nameservers.
