The process is different for .uk domains and all other extensions, so follow the section that matches your domain.
Transferring a .uk domain away
This covers .uk, .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk and other .uk domains. .uk domains don’t use an EPP code. Instead, you move them by changing the domain’s IPS tag to your new provider’s tag.
- Ask your new provider for their IPS tag. Every .uk registrar has one.
- Change the tag. You can change it yourself in the Client Area, or open a support ticket and we’ll change it for you.
- Your new provider takes it from there. Once the tag has changed, the domain moves to them.
Transferring any other domain away
This covers .com, .net, .org, .io, the newer extensions and other country codes.
Open your domain
Go to pacwebhosting.uk/mydomains (or click Domains from the Client Area menu). You will see a list of all the domains registered or transferred to your account. Click the domain you want to manage, or the Manage button next to it.
Unlock the domain
From the domain’s management menu, open Registrar Lock and switch the lock off. A domain must be unlocked before it can transfer.
Get your authorisation (EPP) code
Request the EPP code (sometimes called an auth code) from the domain’s management menu, or by opening a support ticket. Your code will be displayed or emailed to your registered address.
Give the code to your new provider
Start the transfer at your new provider and enter the EPP code when asked. They’ll guide you through the rest. If they say the code is invalid, request a fresh one.
Before you transfer
- Transfer well before your renewal date, and don’t let the domain expire mid-transfer.
- If you’re transferring away, it’s fine to turn off auto-renew for that domain – but only once you’re sure the transfer is going ahead, as a domain with auto-renew off will expire and be lost.
